I have successfully treated thousands of people, of all ages & conditions, with chiropractic care; yet many misconceptions & scepticisms, plague the chiropractic world. Here’s a glimpse at some of the most common myths I’ve encountered during my 20+ years in chiropractic.
MYTH #1: Chiropractic only concerns backs
Yes – chiropractors are concerned with your spine & central nervous system. No – it is not all that we treat. We treat a wide range of back, neck & joint conditions, such as: sciatica, arthritis, scoliosis, headaches/migraine, poor posture, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, jaw pain, sports injuries, joint misalignments & pregnancy. Find out more here.
MYTH #2: It is scary & painful
The aim of our treatment is to relieve pain, not to cause you pain. Don’t you agree that filling your body with painkillers, undergoing surgery & injections is a lot more scarier & painful, than non-invasive & drug-free chiropractic care? Patients report to experience some soreness for the first 12-24 hours after treatments. This may be similar to how it may feel after ‘working out’ for the first time in awhile. However, chiropractors tend to offer ice packs & stretching routines to relieve this discomfort. More info here.
MYTH #3: Chiropractors aren’t “real” doctors
Chiropractic is a registered primary health care profession within the UK, with all chiropractors needing to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). Just as many hours of studying & training is required to become a chiropractor, as it is to become a medical doctor. A four-year GCC-recognised degree or postgraduate master’s course needs to be completed, to qualify as a licensed chiropractor.
MYTH #4: Treatments are expensive
At the Bedford Chiropractic Clinic, we want to make chiropractic care as affordable as we can. This is why we offer a consultation & a body examination all for only £45. You’ll also receive 1 FREE treatment to see if chiropractic is right for you, before you commit. Additionally, we offer various payment plans, so you can choose one that best suits your needs. We also accept most major insurance plans . We also offer free treatments in return for referrals. After all, your health is an investment, not a cost!
MYTH #5: Chiropractic is only for the elderly
From infants, children, teenagers, adults to the elderly – Everyone can benefit from chiropractic! Treatment techniques & equipment vary depending on your age, size & condition. Can it really ever be too early or too late to begin taking care of your body & health? Click here for more info.
MYTH #6: I should only seek chiropractic if I’m in pain
Chiropractic can act as a preventative measure, making it an ideal option for those wanting to maintain good health & wellness. Anyone wanting to keep their health condition in check, before any issues becomes painful, chronic & severe, can seek chiropractic care. It is great to reduce the risk of injury, maintain good body alignment, function & mobility. Following a body examination, a chiropractor may identify an issue, before you even feel any pain or allow it to worsen.
MYTH #7: Not safe for pregnant women
Chiropractors study & train for many years to safely & effectively treat pregnant women, using tailored techniques. We often use specialised equipment such as tables/cushions to accommodate the baby bump. The drug-free & non-invasive nature of the treatments are particularly safe for the mother, and the baby. However, it is advised you contact your GP first. Click here to learn more about chiropractic for mothers and babies!
